The Rainbow Connection is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to the families and children living with cancer or blood disorders. Activities include: The Rainbow Connection Camp, community education, holiday parties, parent support activities, quarterly newsletters, and outings.
THE RAINBOW CONNECTION CAMP is a weeklong summer camp for children who have been treated for cancer or blood disorders, as well as their brothers and sisters. For more information on this exciting program, please refer to the Camp page.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION The Rainbow Connection is committed to educating the community about the early warning signs and treatable nature of childhood cancer or blood disorders. Activities include: participation in community health fairs; providing written material to local schools, daycare centers and newspapers; visiting school classrooms after a student has been diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders; a Speakers Bureau to make presentations to local civic groups and organizations; and special activities during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month each September.
A HOLIDAY PARTY is organized each December and is attended by our patients, their families, staff and volunteers. The gift of friendship is celebrated with a meal, fun activities and seasonal entertainment.
PARENT SUPPORT ACTIVITIES
- The Rainbow Connection provides the family of each newly diagnosed patient with a notebook and written material to help guide them through the treatment process.
- The Rainbow Connection facilitates parents meeting other parents so that mutual support and assistance can begin.
- The Rainbow Connection assistance, with the cost of hospital parking.
- The Rainbow Connection funding for parents to attend the annual statewide Parent Teaching Conference sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
- The Rainbow Connection bereavement support to each family during the difficult period following the death of a child.
